Biography
|
On the 8th day, God made CHEESE. Then he made rock music. And it was good. Neighbors have been unhappy ever since.
Six thousand years later, Andrew Stevenson and John Hojlo began making noise and angering neighbors together. They would reincarnate as various bands with various people until becoming a brotherhood of four with Gizmo (Sterling Silvey) and Magic Hands (Curtis Kent). On this day, God made Enemy of Fortune. And it was good. All good.

After making something from nothing we began playing various venues and private parties around the San Francisco Bay Area including the Gaslighter Theater in Campbell, The Bistro in Hayward, The Fremont Iceoplex, the Fremont Teen Center, and the Hangout in Hayward. Many listeners have said, and we quote, "Your live show rocked!" "Seeing you live is something else!" Others have proclaimed, "You were loud and energetic, cant wait to see you again!"
Former Mystic Rage guitarist Mike Pippin joined our ranks for awhile, bringing darker, heavier leads and rhythms into our noise and contributing to Enemy of Fortune with the presence of his almighty B.C. Rich.
Philip Cuaresma is taking the "front man" lead as lead vocalist. He brings experience from playing in the Philippines as he joins us. When he's not wooing the ladies with his smooth singing, he's screaming at them.
Paul Perez was an electrician by day, a soulful Bass sound system by night. Paul brought a wide range of musical taste into our noise, and would gladly show off his tattoos for the ladies during our shows. Don't worry, they're all above the waist. Sadly, Paul left Enemy of Fortune. We began looking for another bassist - or another Native American with tattoos of horror icons. Either one would work.
And then we found Joe. An old jamming friend of John's from college, Joe gave his guitar hands a break to lend us his bass-playing abilities. Joe now plays bass for us. With his guitar hands.
We have found it hard to associate Enemy of Fortune's sound with any other particular band. While we each share an equal passion for Rock, each member of the band has been influenced by different styles of it. Some bands that have had a great influence and/or been a great inspiration to our songs are: Thrice, Deftones, Dream Theater, Boston, and V.A.S.T.
And here we are today...

Background of the songs on the upcoming Demo CD
1. Shattered Glass - a spiral into depression marked with the hope of "breaking through the cloud walls". A melodic intro leads way to some heavy crunch...and I don't mean the candy bar.
2. Bittersweet - Based on Proverbs 14:10 (check our lyrics page). When being happy doesn't cut it, we all have something deeper that can carry us through.
3. Imashoe - Co-written by our very own drummer, and probably our favorite song to play. An epic masterpiece! That rocks! And chicks dig it! |
